A bilingual art + design program for CURIOUS kids

After-school | Ages 6–11 | Oakura, NZ

Studio Makeland is a hands-on, after-school experience that combines visual arts, photography, and a splash of Spanish language.

It’s a space where kids explore creative thinking, build confidence, and experiment with design-led projects through experimentation and imagination.

Each term is curated to spark curiosity and give kids practical tools to express themselves in both art and language. They’ll draw, paint, construct, photograph, and write while working on projects they’re proud of, including an art journal filled with their own reflections, sketches, and discoveries.

Kids explore open-ended projects designed to spark originality, confidence, and personal expression.

Creative freedom

Children gain early exposure to design tools and concepts like journaling, layout, colour theory, storytelling, and using a camera with purpose.

Practical creative skills

Every session is rooted in tactile experiences, encouraging focus and presence through real materials.

Hands-on making

Language learning is embedded naturally into each project, introducing useful vocabulary and conversation through play.

SESSION
STRUCTURE

Each week:

90min session (3:15pm–4:45pm) Tuesday and Thursday

A guided art/design project.

A splash of Spanish language integrated into the activity.

Writing, hands-on making, and storytelling.

Group sharing or collaboration to end the session.

WHAT THEY TAKE HOME

At the end of the year, they'll have an art journal, filled with drawings, words, ideas, and new vocabulary.

DIY creations: handmade paper, masks, puppets, or materials they crafted.

Confidence in their own creative voice.

A final collaborative project.

A deeper relationship with both art and language.

And if they opt in: analogue film photographs they took themselves.

These 1-on-1 sessions combine art, design, and bilingual play in a personalised format.

Private sessions

Optional Add-On: The Analogue Camera

Kids can capture their own world with a 35mm disposable film camera.

They’ll learn the basics of framing, light, and storytelling through photography.

Cost: $40 NZD (camera only — film development not included)

If you have more than one child who wishes to enrol, we offer 10% off for siblings enrolled in the same term.

The discount will be applied to the second (and third) enrolment; just let us know on the form and we’ll take care of the rest.

Studio Makeland is led by a bilingual designer and creative mentor with a background in photography, digital design, and storytelling. With over 15 years of experience working across creative industries, the goal is simple: to offer kids a space that builds confidence, curiosity, and a creative toolkit they’ll carry for life.
